Point 13: Music with Linux
Linux is a great Operation System for musicians and music students! You will get, completely free, a lot of the best existing programs for such purposes.
The different programms that I propose you to use for music are:
-
Audacity∞, available for Linux and Windows, with
wiki∞ etc. I am sorry, there is no special package available for Puppy at this time but you can install a
SlackWare package (enter "slackware audacity" in a search engine like y! or google) by downloading it in "/" and clicking on the package... I did do so but I can not remember what from where I did download! The appropriate decompression program starts and installs your new package into the right directories!
-
Lame∞ the classical MP3 encoder, is lame-3.93.1.tar, also is an official part of Puppy.
-
Lilypond∞. See please the informations in Wikipedia. The
PupDot packages offers you 3 packages to install. The installation method is the same as descripted under
X virtual keyboard manager. You find the
English Doc∞ on line.
-
Rosegarden∞. See please the informations in Wikipedia. The
PupDot packages offer to you the needed package to install. The installation method is the same as described under
X virtual keyboard manager. Rosegarden is a very old project from Linux. This version is new and very well documented in books in English, German (and French, online). Please use the information offered on the official site:
The
German book∞ seems to be only available in printed form.
- Xripp, an really convenient
ripper∞ for the Xwindows environment, is a
PupGet package ripperx-2.6.0.tar, also is an official part of Puppy.
