50Mb builds of Puppy
. . . as I loved to be able to carry it in my wallet. Another thing is
that some of the machines I work with also don't
boot Knoppix or the Std version of Puppy ... Only
the 128Mb version.
However, thanks to "Unleashed" is is easy to produce
one's own version, and this is what I have done, with
a couple of little tweaks.
The build is basically the same as the standard puppy
except for the fact it fits on a 50Mb Mini-CD and :
+ All the QT apps are gone apart from Opera, which is now the latest static beta build (which is solid).
(Flash and GXine are still there).
+ Abiword is set to En-US and includes the US spelling check files, I have done this not because I speak US English, but because the US dictionary is the better maintained and I need my spell checker :-)
+
TkVnc is replaced with the
TightVNC client, which is about the same size and actually works.
(
TkVnc is missing too many features to be useful).
+ Some of the TCL apps have departed to make some space.
+ Cheops has gone, this didn't work too well for me.
+ Full
RealMedia 9 codec set, so I can watch the video at euronews.net :-) (Default Puppy includes only one of the libs)
+ The help viewer is Dillo.
+ This a 128Mb (load everything into RAM) version.
It can be found here (www.murga.org/_puppy/) for now,
although I'd be happy to upload it somewhere else.
I tried to get the Planmaker word processor to work (to
maybe replace the
AbiWord&libWmf combination) but the
Unleashed package seemed to have problems.
